If you’re still rocking the same wardrobe from the early 2000’s, it’s time to make a change with the start of a new decade. Throw out your old Juicy Couture track suit and hop aboard the latest fashion trends with the help of satellite TV. Satellite TV is home to a number of networks and programs devoted to bringing the height of fashion directly into your home.
Being in style doesn’t necessarily mean having to spend thousands of dollars to look like someone that just walked off of the runway from Paris Fashion Week. It simply means adopting a style that flatters your look, isn’t outdated and makes you feel confident in your everyday life. These shows can help you find out how.
Fashion TV is one of the most widely-distributed satellite TV stations and is the only 24/7 international network that is exclusively dedicated to broadcasting fashion, beauty, glamour and style. The network is based out of Paris, although it was founded by its Polish-born president Michel Adam Lisowski in 1997. Fashion TV gives you an international eye on fashions occurring in places that influence the rest of the world, keeping you up to date and often times ahead of the fashion game. In 2008 the network launched FTV HD, the high definition network that plays host to new programs on designers and fashion with richer, more natural colors and excellent sound quality.
If your fashion issue isn’t so much about being a few years behind the trend but rather a few decades, you might want to check out TLC’s program What Not to Wear. Hosts Stacy London and Clinton Kelly intervene on bad fashion addicts and start them on the path to recovery with a few simple guidelines. Concerned friends and family members of fashion victims ask Stacy and Clinton to conduct a fashion rehab clinic. This always begins with the duo discarding every unbecoming article of clothing from their guest’s wardrobe (their very presence may tempt the recovered addict to start using again). Then, after laying down some ground rules, Stacy and Clinton send their fashion fledgling out into the real world with a budget of $5,000 to start a new life. The end result is always a dramatic transformation, complete with a fresh new hair cut by Ted Gibson and makeup by Carmindy.
Another popular makeover show of similar caliber is Bravo’s Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style. You may recognize Tim Gunn as the man on Project Runway who makes sure the designers are all on track and on time. Co-hosted by model Gretta Monahan, the duo makes over their guest according to their style as long as they can agree to some guidelines. Then they show their guest what they will look like with their new style using a computer generated model. Following this preview, the guest is sent out to buy “ten essential items” that are later critiqued by the hosts. In the end, the guest is reunited with their family and friends to show off their new, stylish look.
