How To Make A Mighty Mugg

If you didn’t know yet, Mighty Muggs are the latest collectible to hit the shelves and truly be something unique. They are one of the first toys to attempt to bridge the gaps between action figures and the pop art vinyl collectible market. It’s a cool idea that we support. The Muggs themselves are done very well, so all respect to Hasbro. Thus far, there have been quite a few classics released and many, many just flat out awesome ones. Dr. Doom anyone? One of the smartest ways that Hasbro has used to help promote the love for these Mighty Muggs was the idea of creating and painting your own Mighty Mugg. This is awesome. They produced blank black and white Mighty Muggs for your creative endeavors. Now the Hasbro artists are not the only ones who get to have fun! The blank Mighty Muggs are available are on website if you don’t have one yet. Here are the steps to making a cool Mugg.

  1. The first step is to get your hands on a black Mighty Mugg. http://www.radartoys.com
  2. The next step is to wash your Mugg well with soap and water. Any soap will do. Get it clean and fresh.
  3. Then get a primer coat of paint on the Mugg. There is no particular kind and the amount of primer needed is not much. After applying your primer wait about 20 minutes or until there is no more dampness to the touch.
  4. During the primer coat make sure you have your picture or model of what you want to paint. Gotta have a game plan, right? Then — pencil in your character. You are effectively drawing the lines so you can paint inside them.
  5. After that is complete, using acrylic paints, start with lighter colors and work your way to darker colors. Apply as many coats as it takes to look thorough and awesome. Go slow, and do your best work. Quality matters for something this cool.
  6. The final step is to use a spray matte sealer — once you are satisfied with how your Mugg looks. Hopefully you’re happy with the results of your artistic awesomeness.

Feel free to send us the pictures of your finished product and we would be happy to post them on our site, Radar Toys.
