John Steinbeck and Travels with Charley
Every year at this time I reread John Steinbeck's novel Travels with Charley (1960). That book, however silly, is a favorite. It is about a writer who drives across the United States to see the country one last time before he dies. The concept of long distance moving would have appealed to him. He lived like a moving man. And he had the wanderlust that all writers have. He is remembered today for his love of travel. Had he needed to move, he would have used a good moving company.
